About me

After graduating with a 2.1 in law from Oxford University in 1995, I went on to gain qualifications in marketing and management, before starting work in a direct marketing agency. I went on to work on large scale business-to-consumer campaigns for different companies, before moving on to run the marketing department at the Publishing Training Centre (PTC) in 2000.

This job involved overall responsibility for the company's website and I oversaw a number of redesigns. I was also responsible for web traffic, which saw dramatic increases year on year.

I went on to redesign and rebuild the PTC's website completely early in 2008, and I have since worked on a number of other web projects.

My marketing background helps to give me some perspective when it comes to web design. The focus should not be on showing off what the designer can do, but on the end user and what they want to get out of the site, as well as on structuring the site so that it performs as well as possible in search engine rankings.

I have a number of marketing and IT qualifications, including the IDM Diploma in Direct Marketing, and I am studying for a degree in computing. I am also a full member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and a chartered marketer.

Currently, I work for another training provider, Editorial Training, which runs short courses in publishing and a proofreading course by distance learning.
