Web design
I have built and designed websites for The Liyoyelo Project, tearingmyhairout.com, the Publishing Training Centre and the Naked Editor. I am also currently the web developer for the Society of Young Publishers.
My approach is to create clean, accessible websites that are focused on the user. It is often all too easy to lose sight of the fact that what really matters is users can find what they're interested in.
Part of this is knowing how to get your site to load as quickly as possible, using images that have been properly optimised for web viewing and avoiding unnecessarily lengthy code.
I also take special care to ensure that the code adheres as far as possible to all relevant standards. This helps to ensure that the site is compatible across different web browsers and can even have knock-on benefits in terms of search engine optimisation and accessibility.
Once the website is built, you will have the option of updating the content yourself using a content management system, but I will still be on-hand to take care of any technical issues.
Website review
Even if you are not looking for a new website, I can help you review and update your existing one.
You might find that you can make considerable gains in terms of search engine ranking and usability through some simple, inexpensive measures.
I can also check that your site is sufficiently accessible to users with disabilities (the Disability Discrimination Act means that anyone offering a service online should be aware of this).
If, having reviewed your website, I can find nothing that I would recommend changing, you will not be charged.
I believe that you should pay only if you receive a concrete benefit from this service.
